HKU Student Relocation

HKU Students Accommodation

The HKU Master’s Transition

The Challenge: "Lin," a postgraduate student from Singapore attending HKU. The Problem: Limited university dorm housing and the need for a short-term & "ready-to-move" space or serviced apartment (if within budget) near the HKU Campus. Like many postgrads, she found that on-campus halls were fully occupied. She needed an apartment that was move-in ready, included Wi-Fi for research, and offered a flexible 9-month lease.

Solution for Student Accommodation

Typical serviced apartments with short term lease are too expensive for a student looking for a cost effective option, while he cannot commit a 12-month traditional lease. Even if he is willing to, he does not want to buy any furniture. We eventually relocated Lin to a neat and tidy serviced studio apartment located in a walk up building that is only 2-min walk from Sai Ying Pun MTR Station i.e. 1 stop away from HKU Station. She avoided

  1. Wi-Fi Setup: No need to register for Wi-Fi which requires usually a 2-year contract.

  2. Furniture Sourcing: The unit was fully furnished, saving her HK$10,000+ upfront costs.

  3. Housekeeping: Housekeeping service is included.

The Outcome for this student relocation

10-Minute Commute & Study-Life Balance, Lin secured a serviced apartment in Sai Ying Pun that saved an average of 45 minutes per day on commuting, allowing her more time for her thesis. Her monthly overhead was predictable, with a cost effective rental level.

The transition was seamless. I moved in with just two suitcases and started my classes the next morning without worrying about the Wi-Fi or furniture delivery." — Lin, HKU Master’s Candidate
